Frequently Asked Questions.
Q: Why should I buy from Model Manes?
We have used various methods to continually improve our system. Samples were worn & tested by real people in order to find the best design before Model Manes went into business. We are proud to say that we have reached the perfect alternative to glue in extensions - with a unique design of where to place the wefts on the head. Even the type of clips used were thought of with the customer in mind. With the pieces wrapped around your head & clipped to your hair, you will have thicker, natural looking hair for less expense. No wonder our customers keep coming back!
Q: How long do the clip in human extensions last?
A: The extensions are human hair, so they can last a long time with proper care. Glue in extensions only last around two months & have to be constantly maintained which isv ery costly. With one of our clip in human hair extension packs, you only need pay ONE one off payment! All the care they need is the same as your own hair; apart from washing.(See questions below)
Q: Can I order some colour samples?
A: Model Manes don't post samples out; but after purchasing the extensions, you can post a small cutting of your own hair to us at the address on your email payment receipt. We will then match your hair colour up perfectly & post your hairpieces out seven days later.
Q: Can I pay by cheque?
A: Yes you can. Click on the link for our PDF order form fill it out and send it, along with your payment, to the address shown and we'll process your order. Cheques take 5 working days to clear.
Q: Can I order my hair over the telephone?
A: Yes. Please call the number at the top of our homepage to pay over the telephone with your credit or debit card. You can also order online with our shopping basket facility, or pay by cheque. We even accept postal orders. Our online payment processors are Paypal & Google checkout, which are safe & secure. Your details are never handed out to third parties.
Q: Can I cut my human clip in hair extensions?
A: Yes, it's fine to cut them; but we suggest cutting them whilst they are attached to your head, so you can see how the hair falls. Obviously it would be better for a hairdresser to cut the hair, to avoid costly mistakes. You can also use straightening irons - it's human!! A great tip is to hang your hair on a trouser hanger & hook the hanger onto a door handle before straightening, curling or cutting. It works a treat! It is not recommended that you use straighteners on the wavy hair as it has already being permed & may dry out if straightened.
Q: How do i wash my human clip in hair extensions?
A: There's no rule on how often you should wash the hair; but here's a suggestion: Spray with the control spray (Available to buy in our Hair care products section) as often as needed, then wash once every two months, or every month if you wish.
The hair does collect smoke, dirt, sweat etc, just like your own hair; so that makes it tangle & matt etc - especially in hot nightclubs.Generally, after washing & deep conditioning the hair is like new again. However, it also gets knotty because it's long, just like normal hair. Model Manes hair is the best on the market; & is famous for being shiny & tangle free for three months & more!
You need to run the shampoo through the length of the hair (Don't rub or twist!), then condition with a colour protecting conditioner or deep nourishing treatment. After putting lots of conditioner on, hang the hair over the bath taps & leave for half an hour, then rinse off.
As the hair is human, you only need the same shampoos as what you would normally use; but a deep conditioner is essential.
You'll have probably notice that you've started to get a few split ends too after a while. That's just normal, it's acting the same as your own hair!
You'll need a good extension brush. The Tangle Teezer is the only brush that we sell or endorse, quite simply because we have never come cross anything that works as well on wet hair, human hair or synthetic hair without damaging it. The brush will glide through your hair, no matter if your hair is tangled, windswept, wet...A Teezer is an essential piece of kit for any hairpiece wearer.
Q: Can I colour the hair?
A: Human hair can be coloured; but it is not recommended. As with human hair, it may go frizzy & dry if bleached; so darkening is much better. Please do not attempt to colour the hair yourself. A qualified hairdresser is always the best option.
Synthetic hair is not suitable for colouring or applying heat to.
Q: How long do the clip in human hair extensions take to put in?
A: They clip in with little snap clips with combs on that are invisible once you've got them in. With practice, they should take 5 - 10 mins to put in & about 60 sconds to take out! (The leaflet you receive with your order has diagrams like the ones below which show you how to attach the hairpieces)
Q: What are the different Human hair textures like?
- Body wave hair has a very romantic looking, gentle wave that frames & softens the facial features beautifully. Easier to maintain than straight hair, as your own hair wont need straightening before applying. Great for that fashionable tousled effect that the celebs love!
- Silky Straight hair is the most poker straight hair available. Soft & shiny & good for those who are seeking a very sleek look. Our most popular choice. We now only use 100% Remy hair for our straight clip-ins.
- Deep wave hair is much curlier than the body wave extensions & has a lovely, shiny, bouncy look. This type of extension is suited to those of you who either already have a natural curl to your hair, or for those of you who have it tonged or permed. Great for that mermaid effect. Requires some mainainence, such as spraying with an after perm conditioning spray to keep the curls from going frizzy. Deep wave has a wet look & feels crispy to touch at first. This is because the hair has been coated to give the curls a separated look.
- Italian weave hair is a little more wavy than Body Wave & is very bouncy & tousled. Incredibly natural looking if you're looking for lots of waves without being corkscrew curled.
The term 'Remi'/ Remy means that only the finest virgin hair is used. The hair is hand picked & aligned so that every strand runs in the same direction that it grows from the scalp, in order to keep the hair shiny, soft & truly tangle free.
'Remi' has a shine like no other & will not matt or tangle when worn for long periods. No wonder that stars such as Britney Spears, Paris Hilton & Victoria Beckhman swear by Remi hair.
'Remi' is the best type of hair on the market -Celebrities & the general public alike pay thousands for this type of hair to be glued in! Just ask your local extensionist. (Make sure you're sitting down first!!!)
If you have ever worn extensions you will see & feel the difference when you try 'Remi'. Unlike imitation Remy, ours is not coated in silicone to appear softer. You will see & feel the difference...
Q: How do i care for my synthetic ponytail / wig / hairpiece?
A: Fill your sink with cool water with some shampoo added & let your hairpiece soak for a few minutes. Swish it around in the water; but don't rub, scrunch or twist. After rinsing, apply a good conditioner & using your fingers, gently comb through. Rinse again with cold water, blot gently with a towel; & hang to dry on a wig stand, or something long & slim.
Do not dry with hair drier, always let synthetic hair dry naturally.
Only use a brush on the hair after is is completely dry.
